‘Bring back Jose Riveiro!’ – Pirates faithful lose patience with Ouaddou

Orlando Pirates supporters are calling on the club’s management to recall Jose Riveiro after the team suffered back-to-back league defeats.

Under new head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, the Buccaneers have lost their opening two Betway Premiership matches. This past weekend, Pirates went down 1-0 to Sekhukhune United.

On Tuesday evening, many expected the Sea Robbers to bounce back against Marumo Gallants but were humiliated 2-1 despite scoring first. The defeat leaves Ouaddou’s men right at the bottom after two matches.

Orlando Pirates fans are calling for Riveiro

Jose Riveiro coached Pirates from 2022 until 2025 where he went on to win five trophies with the Soweto giants. His contract ended in June and the Spaniard opted not to renew, and instead, he joined Egyptian giants Al Ahly.

Ouaddou was named as his replacement and many Bucs faithful saw him as the man who would finally help the club get over the line and win the league title. With two matches played, the Sea Robbers have nothing to show for and supporters are frustrated.

After Orlando Pirates defeat to Gallants, many supporters took to social media to ask the management to bring back Riveiro.

@ka_madesi wrote: “This guy found a well oiled machine. He then takes people who carried this team and put them in the grandstands.”

@tdyani wrote: “Jose Riveiro’s work completely undone in just 3 matches. Unbelievable.’

Riveiro’s departure affecting Orlando Pirates

@RozmolaThato wrote: “Something is not right with Orlando Pirates. I think Jose Riveiro must come back and be reappointed again. this is so sad and humiliating.”

“We undermined how much Jose Riveiro held this team together. We literally have no brain… Just a team with parts moving aimlessly,” tweeted @NeoMabuya_
