Broos – This Has To Stop!

Posted on December 30, 2025

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has revealed what his team is struggling to do now, an element they have to work on ahead of AFCON Round of 16.

South Africa qualified from Group B along with Egypt after two wins and one defeat. Broos’ troops won 3-2 in their third group-stage match against Zimbabwe.

Despite the win over the Warriors and qualification to the next stage, the Belgian tactician wasn’t happy with the Bafana performance on Monday.

Broos admits he is concerned by how easily his side is losing possession, an area that was once a major strength before AFCON.

He pointed out that during the Zimbabwe match, the team unnecessarily wanted to go all out to score more goals while already leading, instead of maintaining possession to frustrate the opposition.

“Many times, we lost the possession of the ball, it was 3-2 and still we wanted to score the fourth. Why? Just keep the ball,” Broos told SABC Sport.

“So, we played the game that was wanted by Zimbabwe. Bad passing and losing the ball many times.

“We were a few times in difficulties, and this has to stop. We can’t control the game anymore and we have to work on it.”
