Bafana Bafana defender Nkosinathi Sibisi has pointed out the biggest lessons they have grasped from the AFCON tournament so far.
South Africa collected a win against Angola in the first match of the group stages before they suffered a defeat at the hands of Egypt.
They face Zimbabwe on Monday, 29 December, in a decisive third group-stage match with a place in the Round of 16 on the line.
Sibisi says they have learnt that it’s not about playing fancy football, it’s about getting the results they will carry you to the next rounds.
He added that maintaining clean sheets in the tournament would help them progress far, as it did in the previous edition.
“The biggest lessons we have taken from the last two games is that in this tournament is that it’s not about how you do it, but you have to do it, you have to get the results,” said Sibisi.
“And I think we saw in the previous two games, we fought for it against Angola and were able to get a 2-1 victory.
“But I think being solid as a team and keeping clean-sheets is will take us a long way in this tournament because I think we have conceded two now but going back to the previous AFCON, we kept a number of clean-sheets.
“That’s going to be important and that’s the biggest takeaway from this tournament right now.”
