Mamelodi Sundowns are going all out in their attempt to lure a former Stellenbosch star back to South Africa.
The Brazilians are gearing up for a major 2026. Miguel Cardoso’s side are uncharacteristically chasing Orlando Pirates in the league.
On top of that, a huge CAF Champions League campaign looms. In fact, Cardoso will know all too well that everything rests on winning the continental crown.
After a sluggish first-half of the season, it’s clear reinforcements are needed at Chloorkop. And now, the club are reportedly going all out to sign an exciting winger.
Opening Sundowns offer rejected by SV Reid
Mamelodi Sundowns’ opening offer for SV Reid winger Antonio Van Wyk has reportedly been rejected.
The 23-year-old speedster joined the Austrian second division side at the beginning of last season.
Van Wyk spent three years at Stellenbosch before moving abroad. He made 78 appearances for the Cape side, scoring six goals while assisting 11 more.
According to IDiski Times, Sundowns’ opening offer was rejected by the Austrian side.
Reid’s counter offer was a ‘player+cash’ deal which included Siyabonga Mabena.
Sundowns however are not keen on losing Mabena. The youngster has been tipped for a big future at the club, and remains part of the plans at Chloorkop.
Van Wyk’s numbers in Europe
Antonio Van Wyk has been a steady performer in Austria this season.
In total, he’s made 36 appearances for SV Reid, scoring twice while assisting seven more.
More promising however is the fact that five of those assists and one goal have come this season.
It remains to be seen if Sundowns will better their initial cash-only offer.
