Mbatha – There Isn’t Much Pressure For Us

Posted on December 27, 2025

Bafana Bafana midfielder Thalente Mbatha says there isn’t much pressure for his side after losing to Egypt in their AFCON’s second group-stage match.

South Africa were handed a 1-0 defeat by 10-man Egypt at the Stade Adrar in Agadir on Friday evening.

Hugo Broos’ troops will be aiming for a positive result against Zimbabwe when the two sides meet on Monday, 29 December, with a place in the next round at stake.

Despite the defeat to Egypt, Mbatha remains confident and says the result does not put Bafana under added pressure.

“I believe there isn’t much pressure for us,” said Mbatha on SABC Sport.

“As a team, we have a quality to go and get the three points in that game. For us, we have to focus and look at the game plan that the coach gives us.”

He pointed out that Bafana Bafana haven’t shown enough confidence in the last two matches and stressed the need to work on this against Zimbabwe.

“For us, I think it’s a matter of being able to be confident and believe in our abilities,” he added.

“We do have the quality, so for us it’s something that has been really not that much in the past two games.

“We have to be much sharper and wiser and focus on the game.”
