Ahead of their second Group B match at the Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) against Egypt, Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has insisted there is no club-divide in the national team.
Mamelodi Sundowns have been regular competitors in CAF inter-club competitions in the last decade, where they have competed against Egyptian sides while Orlando Pirates have also done well on the continent against North African clubs last season.
The two Betway Premiership sides have the most players in the South African senior men’s side that’s currently at the on-going AFCON in Morocco.
Broos insisted it doesn’t matter from which clubs his players are coming from and he pointed to the unity and family environment being a key thing in his team.
“You know in the team there is no Sundowns or Pirates or whatever,” said Broos.
“But what makes us so strong I have said it already in the past, this is a big family.
“And not only the players, not only the technical staff but everyone who is part of the delegation is working towards one goal and that is to prepare for the games as good as possible and to win every game we play.
“So I don’t see Pirates players alone or Sundowns players alone, they are setting together on the table, they are making noise they are making the jokes there is no difference, not at all.
“This is again one of the important things that make South Africa so strong for the moment.”
Broos also insisted the fact that Sundowns and Pirates’ players have met Egyptian clubs in the CAF Champions League won’t affect the game.
“You know it doesn’t really matter,” he stated.
“Okay, maybe we have the experience of Pirates and Sundowns to play against those Egyptian teams but on the other side we don’t have the experience of playing Zimbabwean teams.
“So it’s not so important. But the on other way for those players maybe there is something special and something they have comparing with other players.”
