Pitso Mosimane’s strongest Bafana Bafana hint yet

Posted on December 24, 2025

Pitso Mosimane might have unfinished business with Bafana Bafana after an underwhelming stint with them in the 2010s.

Pitso Mosimane wants the Bafana Bafana job

‘Jingles’ took over as the national team boss in 2010 on a four-year deal. However, he was relieved of his job after failing to qualify for the 2012 AFCON. The 61-year-old wants to succeed Belgian Hugo Broos.

“There’s no better time to coach Bafana than now,” he told MSW.

“We have a good generation of under-20s, under-17s. South Africa is in a good spot, but sometimes we forget that we’ve been in this space before,” Mosimane added.

“Yes, I’m available for a good project, but you can’t just say, ‘Okay, we drew yesterday, now let’s get him and then we draw again, and then we can’t fix it’.

“Those things, I’m not in line with them,” he concluded.

Dolly credits Pitso Mosimane for massive Sundowns success

Keagan Dolly believes Pitso Mosimane was the key to his massive success at Sundowns. The attacking midfielder, now with Cape Town City, was a treble winner in 2016 at Chloorkop.

“I was away, Percy [Tau] was away,” Dolly told iDiski Times.

“Samuel Julies was there, who started young. Themba Zwane, as well, spent his time away. So a lot of us had to go away to show that we are good enough to be a part of that team.

“But also, we had a different coach who could turn the team into winners, and he made us into a unit, which is Coach Pitso. You know, he’s a serial winner. He wants to win. And that rubbed off on all of us.

“It wasn’t about the age or your name; it was about who was doing the job. And you could see that 2016 team, we were just ruthless. We won all our games.”

Bafana Bafana off to a winning start at AFCON

South Africa claimed a 2-1 win over Angola in their AFCON 2025 opener thanks to goals from Orlando Pirates winger Oswin Appollis and ex-Pirates man Lyle Foster. Buccaneers attacker Tshepang Moremi, a second-half substitute, also had the ball in the net on 51 minutes, but VAR ruled the goal out for offside. Hugo Broos’ men are next in action against Egypt on Boxing Day, with kickoff at 17:00 SA time. Here are their two remaining group fixtures:
