Chiefs boss and scout spotted in Africa (images)

Posted on December 23, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs’ Motuang Jr and Maliwa have been spotted at the latest TransferRoom conference. What is it? A digital marketplace that links clubs, agents, and players for transfers.

This is the same platform that facilitated Mamelodi Sundowns transfers for Marcello Allende, Arthur Sales, and Tashreeq Matthews.

KAIZER CHIEFS ATTEND TRANSFER ROOM

The event is not all about hunting for new signings. Amakhosi will also aim to strike deals on outgoing players. Reports suggest Kaizer Chiefs could be selling Fiacre Ntwari and Wandile Duba to raise funds for fresh faces.

With squad balance in mind, the club is likely targeting a defensive midfielder, an attacking midfielder, and a left-back.

Lebohang Moboe, who plays his best football as a central midfielder, ended the first half of the season as a makeshift defensive midfielder. The previous option for the role, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, has all the defensive ability but lacks the attacking output demanded by modern football. January’s signing, Thabo Cele, has proven to be a maestro of tempo and control by nature, rather than as a hard-running, all-action number six.

LEFT-BACK AND ATTACKING MIDFIELD

At left-back, new signing Nkanyiso Shinga has struggled to adapt to the South African game after moving from the Portuguese second tier. Former Orlando Pirates left-back Paseka Mako is yet to show his best level after two injury setbacks. Bradley Cross has been a reliable option at left-back but has yet to deliver the required dynamism in attack.

In attacking midfield, Mduduzi Shabalala offers the needed mobility but lacks the experience to create enough goals and convert a sufficient number of goal-scoring opportunities.

Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs’ first half of 2025/2026 has shown both promise and concern. The team sits in fourth place in the league. The shock exit of coach Nasreddine Nabi in October saw his assistants, Ben Khalil Youssef and Cedric Kaze, take over until the end of the term.

While the club has shown solid defensive performances and made progress, two winless games to start the CAF Confederation Cup, and the early exit from the Carling Knockout raised alarm.
