Ex-Pirates star backs Chiefs to sign Mabasa

Pirates’ new striker emerges as Mabasa’s future hangs in the balance

Former Orlando Pirates forward Phumlani Mkhize feels Tshegofatso Mabaso could fit perfectly at Kaizer Chiefs.

The 29-year-old Bucs striker has struggled for gametime under Abdeslam Ouaddou and has been linked with a shock move to Naturena. With his contract expiring in June, Amakhosi could sign the ex-Bloemfontein Celtic star for free in January.

Mkhize, who played for both Chiefs and Pirates, said Mabasa could get more support from Amakhosi given his quality.

“Mabasa is a player I still need at Pirates, but the coach believes otherwise,” Mkhize told KickOff.

“So a move to Kaizer Chiefs would be the best move of his football career. Kaizer Chiefs need a target man and a finisher like Mabasa upfront.

“I see Flavio Da Silva, but the thing is, he lacks that thing that Kaizer Chiefs supporters are expecting from a Kaizer Chiefs striker. But Mabasa will fit in perfectly at Kaizer Chiefs because the football they are playing does not differ that much from the one Pirates are playing. “

Mkhize said the Pirates attacker has goals in him, and given Amakhosi’s lack of goals, the move to Naturena could work out for him and the club.

“Mabasa would be the best signing for Chiefs because he’s got goals in him and Chiefs need goals. He is a hardworking striker. His awareness in the box is second to none,” he said.

“He knows exactly where the goals are, and he’s good at one-on-ones. Pirates’ loss would be Kaizer Chiefs’ gain if he happens to go there.”

Mabasa to Chiefs a reality

Mkhize added that the striker is the kind of player who not only scores goals but also provides assists.

“He is a true striker, hence there are always questions around his exclusion from the national team,” the retired forward said.

Will Mabasa be a good fit for Amakhosi?
