SABC to show Bafana Bafana’s first AFCON match

Posted on December 21, 2025

Bafana Bafana are in Morocco for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon 2025). The dream kicks off in Group B against Southern African neighbours Angola.

It has been confirmed that SABC 2 deliver the action from Ouahat Sidi Brahim, Morocco on Monday at 19:00.

ANGOLA TO BATTLE BAFANA BAFANA IN AFCON 2025 OPENER

South Africa arrived in Morocco this week feeling like one of Africa’s big boys. There’s confidence after the strong showing at AFCON 2024 in Côte d’Ivoire, where they finished with a bronze medal.

Hugo Broos’ team knocked out Morocco in the round of 16, edged Cape Verde on penalties in the quarterfinals, before beating DR Congo in another shootout to secure third place.

In the qualification road to Afcon 2025, South Africa topped their group unbeaten, collecting 14 points from six matches. Along the way, Bafana Bafana stamped some statement results, including a 5-0 win over Congo Brazaville and a comfortable 3-0 victory against South Sudan.

Now the actual tournament is here. The 1996 champions find themselves in Group B alongside Egypt, Angola and Zimbabwe.

HUGO BROOS WARY OF ANGOLA

“It’s a good team, you can be sure. There are some good players, they are very technical,” Broos told the media. “And a new coach always gives something extra to the players and the players want to prove themselves,” the Belgian, who won the title with Cameroon in 2017, added. “So that means we will have a tough opponent.

Broos added to say he trusts his team, as they have beaten stronger opponents before. That belief, he added, means there is no reason to fear Angola, only a need for confidence and focus.

However, he warned that Angola will offer Bafana Bafana no favours, stressing that his side must perform at their highest level. For him, a narrow win would be more than enough, as the priority is simply getting the result rather than chasing a big scoreline.

Bafana Bafana’s first outing is against Angola on Monday, 22 December at 19:00. Match day two will be against Egypt on Friday, 26 December at 17:00. The group campaign wraps up against Zimbabwe on Monday, 29 December at 18:00.
