Rulani Suffers First Defeat In Ligue 1

Posted on December 18, 2025

Rulani Mokwena’s Mouloudia Club d’Alger suffered their first defeat in the Ligue 1 to newly promoted side MB Rouissat.

MC Alger came to this game unbeaten in 18 matches, edging close to break their 2013/14 record of 22 matches unbeaten in the Algerian Ligue 1, however, the run was ended on Thursday.

It was not the start The Dean wanted, as MB Rouissat took the lead through captain Kheiredine Merzougui in the 27th minute.

Merzougui came back to haunt Alger after leaving them before the start of the season on a free transfer to join Rouissat.

MCA dominated the game but couldn’t break the defence of Rouissat in the second half.

It marked the first defeat for MCA under Mokwena in Ligue 1, while Rouissat became the first local side to beat the defending champions since April 2025.

The massive win saw Rouissat move to sixth place, while Mokwena’s men stayed at the top of the log with 25 points from 10 games, four points ahead of second-placed Olympique Akbou.

They also still have two games in hand to extend their lead, and have one game remaining in 2025, facing seventh-placed Ben Aknoun two days before Christmas.
