Kaizer Chiefs’ poor recruitment to cost them golden title chance

Posted on December 11, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs may have improved defensively. However, their inability to finish chances is a familiar failing that isn’t a huge surprise.

Lack of transfer foresight from the Kaizer Chiefs board

Amakhosi brought in a raft of new attackers at the start of the 2025/26 season, but things seem to have gone backwards for them in the final third of the pitch.

Thirteen goals in 13 league outings is a neat and underwhelming average of a goal per game.

With games in the PSL often being tight affairs, clinical strikers can make the difference between one point – and three.

Kaizer Chiefs have already drawn six matches in the league, a fact which already categorically rules them out of the title race again.

Silva leads the way for Kaizer Chiefs, but there’s not much else

Twenty-nine year old Flavio Silva is the team’s top scorer in the league with four goals from six appearances.

Recently crowned Betway Premiership Player of the Month, Puso Dithejane, discarded by Kaizer Chiefs in 2023, has the same tally as Silva – and he’s not even a striker.

Kaizer Chiefs attackers Pule Mmodi, Wandile Duba and Ashley du Preez all have zero goals to their name this season.

New signings Etiosa Ighodaro and Khanyisa Mayo have one apiece across all competitions. And remember, Mayo is only at the club on loan.

At some point, the board needs to start making better decisions in the transfer market.

There could well be a summer exodus on the cards too.

Chiefs will blow their best chance to win the title in over a decade

A quick glance at the Betway Premiership table and things don’t actually look bad.

Fourth-placed Kaizer Chiefs are only two points behind a subpar Mamelodi Sundowns side (in second spot), and four adrift of leaders Orlando Pirates, who have a game in hand.

This can all be viewed in two ways: either Kaizer Chiefs are in the title race, or it’s one of the worst Betway Premiership seasons in recent history, and they don’t have the firepower to capitalise on this golden opportunity.

If they don’t find their shooting boots after the 2025 AFCON, they can forget about a first league crown since the 2014/15 season.

Goalless draws away to Chippa United and TS Galaxy have seen an underwhelming finish to the calendar year.

Anything but a win at home against Golden Arrows when the league resumes in late January will have fans getting that ‘familiar’ feeling.

Where will Kaizer Chiefs finish in the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season?
