Chaine On His First AFCON With Bafana

Posted on December 11, 2025

Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Sipho Chaine has expressed his delight at earning a place in the Bafana Bafana squad for his first-ever AFCON.

In the previous tournament, he was not included, with Ronwen Williams, Veli Mothwa, and Ricardo Goss forming the goalkeeping department.

Consistent performances for Pirates over the past year have seen Chaine become a regular selection under Hugo Broos, making his inclusion in the AFCON team almost certain.

Chaine said it is a privilege and an honour to represent South Africa on such a major stage, adding that the squad is determined to make the nation proud.

“It’s an honour to represent my country, to be part of the group that’s going to the Africa Cup of Nations,” said Chaine.

“It’s privilege, it’s privilege for everyone else who’s part of the team. We’ll push ourselves to make the country proud for South Africa to feel the way they used to feel.”

This season, Chaine has made 22 appearances across all competitions, keeping 15 clean sheets in the process.
