Khanyiso Mayo’s agent on Algeria stint

Posted on December 5, 2025

Khanyisa Mayo’s agent Basia Michaels has revealed that the striker’s move to Algerian Ligue 1 side CR Belouizdad was a mistake.

Mayo left Cape Town City last year to join Algerian giants on a three-year deal. His move to North Africa did not work out and 12 months later, he was back in South Africa wearing Kaizer Chiefs colours.

The 27-year-old talented striker had already netted for Amakhosi on his debut and seems to be at ease returning to the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

Khanyisa Mayo’s agent has lifted the lid on the striker’s brief spell in Algeria, hinting that the move may not have been the ideal step for his career.

While she stopped short of revealing full details, the agent suggested that the Bafana Bafana forward should have joined Kaizer Chiefs a year earlier instead.

“Look, there are certain things that Khanyisa and I have to die with. Certain things happened and maybe he will talk about it in one of those podcasts where players are telling people that ‘yoh, my agent this did and that’. Maybe he’ll come out with it,” Michaels told SABC.

“For me, for the protection of my agency and future clients and transactions, I won’t come out with the truth about it but it was the most difficult period in his life.”

Michaels confirmed that the deal to Belouizdad shouldn’t have happened in the first place. She said last year that Kaizer Chiefs were just a few minutes late to finalise Mayo’s deal.

“We had offers abroad, but in the end, for personal reasons, we felt it was best for Khanyisa to come back and join Chiefs,” Michaels said when Mayo joined Amakhosi on loan.

Mayo is currently on loan from CR Belouizdad, but it remains to be seen if the Algerian side will sell him.

Should Chiefs sign Mayo on a permanent deal?
