Orlando Pirates identify Mbokazi replacement

Posted on November 24, 2025

Orlando Pirates have reportedly reignited their interest in a Bafana Bafana and Stellenbosch star.

The Buccaneers look set to lose superstar Mbekezeli Mbokazi in the coming weeks.

Mbokazi has been tipped to join MLS side Chicago Fire. In fact, reports suggest a club-to-club agreement is already in place.

Now, the only thing left is for Mbokazi to agree to the terms of the contract Fire are offering him! With Mbokazi heading for the exit door, new reports suggest Pirates are already working on a replacement.

Orlando Pirates eyeing Stellenbosch star

According to the latest transfer reports, Orlando Pirates are plotting a move for Thabo Moloisane.

With Mbokazi’s exit likely looming, Abdeslam Ouaddou will be looking for a swift replacement for his star defender.

The Buccaneers have reportedly reignited their interest in the 26-year-old Stellenbosch defender.

“According to sources close to the club, Orlando Pirates have not dropped their interest in Moloisane, who has also been on their radar across different transfer windows,” a Soccer Laduma report read.

The publication further claim Moloisane is viewed as a long-term ‘leader’ by the Buccaneers.

Moloisane has been a top performer for Stellenbosch over the past three years.

Mbokazi’s situation explained

Veteran South African journalist Mark Gleeson has reported that a $3 million deal has been agreed upon between Orlando Pirates and Chicago Fire.

Mbokazi has made 37 appearances for the Buccaneers. The youngster was also named as the Orlando Pirates deputy captain for the ongoing campaign.

He’s only expected to leave the Buccaneers in January. This means that if the deal does go through, Orlando Pirates will likely go all out to try and lure Moloisane to Mayfair in the January transfer window.
