Ex-Kaizer Chiefs coach feels Sirino is not given a fair chance

Former Kaizer Chiefs head coach Cavin Johnson feels the club has not given Gaston Sirino enough opportunities.

The 34-year-old attacker has played 14 matches across all competitions, scoring once and providing two assists. Although he played 14 times, he mostly appeared as a substitute.

Under Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze, Sirino has not played enough minutes and with his Chiefs contract coming to an end this season, it remains to be seen if he would stay at the club.

Johnson coached Amakhosi before the ex-Mamelodi Sundowns winger joined Chiefs, but he feels Sirino deserves more game time.

“Gaston Sirino, I never got chance to coach him, he came after me at Chiefs, I don’t know whether he has done enough since he got to Chiefs, but at the same time also I don’t think they have given him enough opportunity,” Johnson told KickOff.

“You must remember at Sundowns he was a very big player because they gave him the opportunity to play.

Amakhosi technical team have preferred Mduduzi Shabalala, Mfundo Vilakazi, and Pule Mmodi, who has compromised Sirino.

“Sirino he is a good player, there is no doubt he is a good player,” said the former Chiefs coach Cavin Johnson.

“But whether he deserves an extension in his contract or not, that depends entirely on the coaches there at Chiefs. But to me Sirino was a good player at Sundowns and still a good player even now.”

Can Sirino force his way into the starting 11?
