Kaizer Jr Previews Chiefs’ ‘Tough’ CAFCC Opener

Posted on November 20, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr has previewed his side’s CAF Confederation Cup opener against Egyptian side Al-Masry in Cairo this weekend.

Amakhosi are traveling to Egypt to face the fifth-placed side of the Egyptian Premier League, who picked up five wins, five draws and two defeats in their 12 games so far.

Chiefs, meanwhile, are third in the PSL, with six wins and just one defeat in 11 league matches.

On Sunday, both teams turn their attention to CAF football, with Amakhosi featuring in a CAF Interclub competition for the first time since losing the 2021 CAF Champions league final to Al Ahly.

“I’m very excited. This is the African stage. It’s where we want to be,” Motaung Jr. told Chiefs’ media team.

“We’re expecting a tough test in Egypt, which is well known for its passion for football. Once we knew the draw and the destinations, we had to prepare thoroughly and, coming from the FIFA International break which we have used wisely, we are optimistic of giving our fans a good performance.

“The technical staff have put the players through their paces. Our opposition have been thoroughly researched and analysed, so there is a positive feeling within the camp regarding the task at hand.

“Everyone in the group is playing to win and these are two very important games for us against tough opponents right at the start.

“But we believe we pose a significant threat ourselves and we are going out to get maximum points.”

The match between Al-Masry and Chiefs kicks off at 18:00 (SAST) on Sunday, before Amakhosi host Zamalek on 29 November at Mbombela Stadium
