How Orlando Pirates beat Kaizer Chiefs to key signing!
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Reddit

Kaizer Chiefs were reportedly in the race to sign a player that ended up at their arch rivals Orlando Pirates.

Chiefs and Pirates competing for the same players is no surprise as it is a norm dating back decades.

Soweto giants compete in the market

It was no different in the previous transfer window with several reported targets of both clubs making moves. While in other windows the likes of Pule Mmodi, Ranga Chivaviro and Sibongiseni Mthethwa chose Chiefs, Pirates won this time. This after signing several players linked with their rivals at a time.

Both clubs were reportedly in the running for Sinoxolo Kwayiba, Oswin Appollis, Sipho Mbule, Tshepang Moremi and Yanela Mbuthuma. The above players would all end up signing for Pirates and early in the window. But they were not the only ones. Impressive midfielder Masindi Nemtajela was also rumoured to have been a big target for Chiefs. But in the end, he chose to put pen to paper with the Buccaneers.

Now having done well at Pirates, it has since been revealed by The Citizen, how they beat Chiefs to Nemtajela.

How Pirates beat Chiefs to Nemtajela

“Behind the scenes, however, the battle for his signature was far more intense than initially perceived with Kaizer Chiefs and Sekhukhune United were reportedly monitoring the player closely. Sensing growing competition, Pirates acted decisively by reportedly visiting Nemtajela’s family as part of their efforts to secure the deal, a gesture that is said to have resonated strongly with both the player and those close to him. While Ouaddou’s recommendation undoubtedly influenced the transfer, insiders suggest Pirates went the extra mile. The personal touch, coupled with the promise of continuity under a familiar coach, seemingly tipped the scales in their favour.” Wrote the publication.

Did he make the right move?

Pirates fans how happy are you that Nemtajela chose your club over Chiefs? Amakhosi, would you have loved to have him at Naturena? Feel free to leave your thoughts and feelings in the comments below.
