Orlando Pirates could earn R17m before the PSL break

Posted on November 17, 2025

Orlando Pirates could be R17 million richer before the Premier Soccer League (PSL) takes a break on 6 December.

This could only happen if the Buccaneers win the Carling Knockout Cup final against Marumo Gallants. Having won the MTN8 trophy for the fourth consecutive season, Abdeslam Ouaddou will aim to win another trophy this season as he looks to become the first Pirates manager in 14 years to win the Carling KO.

The final between the Buccaneers and Gallants will be played at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on 6 December.

Carling Black Label’s brand director Kerryn Greenleaf said the two teams fought hard to earn a place in the final.

Gallants stand in the way of Orlando Pirates

“Fans were treated to pure football drama in the semifinals. A sold-out Moses Mabhida Stadium saw both Orlando Pirates and Richards Bay FC leave everything on the pitch — with the Buccaneers coming out victorious,” said Greenleaf.

“Over at King Zwelethini Stadium, Golden Arrows and Marumo Gallants kept us all on edge until the very last kick. It went all the way to penalties, where Gallants’ experience shone through.

“Now, all roads lead to Polokwane on 6 December for what promises to be an electric final.”

Orlando Pirates have already added R10 million to their account by winning the MTN8. Although they crashed out of the CAF Champions League preliminary stages, the Sea Robbers still walked away with R1 million, taking their earnings to R11 million.

If they win the Carling KO, which pays out R6.8 million, the Soweto giants will be R17.8 million richer before Christmas.
