Mamelodi Sundowns handed Stellenbosch FC their fourth defeat of the season with a 3-1 hiding while Siwelele FC pulled off a 2-1 win over Marumo Gallants in Saturday’s DStv Diski Challenge ties.

Siwelele kept themselves in the title race after a 2-1 win over Gallants. Thabang Makubo scored the opening goal for Siwelele before a late penalty from Thabang Mahlangu sealed the victory for the Bloemfontein-based side.

In KwaZulu-Natal, Chippa United held Daine Klate’s Durban City to a 1-1 draw. Defender Abraham Mashele scored for the Chili Boys while on-form Luphumlo “Kaka” Sifumba scored for City in a share of the spoils.

The big clash of the day between second-placed Sundowns and Stellies kicked off on a high intensity. Downs took the lead in the 16th minute after Thato Sibiya found Siyabonga Mabena inside the box. Mabena dribbled past the defender and unleashed his strike to beat the Stellies goalkeeper to make it 1-0.

In the second half, Sundowns dominated from the start, and they got rewarded in the 56th minute through Chuene Moabelo who jumped off the bench to make 2-0.

Stellies pulled one back after Langelihle Phili’s shot was saved by Sundowns’ goalkeeper, the ball fell into the path of Tauric Gameldien who made no mistake. Mabena laid an assist for Bennet Mokoena who made it 3-1.

Saturday results:

Durban City FC 1-1 Chippa Utd
Stellenbosch FC 1-3 Mamelodi Sundowns
Marumo Gallants 1-2 Siwelele FC
Lamontville Golden Arrows 1-1 AmaZulu FC
