Appollis has been the best PSL player since joining Pirates

Posted on November 15, 2025

Oswin Appollis has always been a joy to watch, but his move to Orlando Pirates has truly brought out the best in him.

The 24-year-old attacker made a name for himself at Polokwane City, which earned him a call-up to the Bafana Bafana national team.

He was part of the squad that finished third at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2024. Although he didn’t see much action during that tournament, he became a regular member of the national team.

Last season, Appollis’ club form suffered, but his performances for Bafana remained impressive, as he continued to deliver for Hugo Broos during the AFCON and World Cup qualifiers. During pre-season, he was linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs, but in a surprising twist, the attacker joined their rivals, Orlando Pirates.

Since joining Pirates in July, Appollis has proven to be a significant asset for the Buccaneers.

The dynamic winger has been in sensational form, scoring three goals and providing five assists across all competitions so far this season.

Appollis on the next level this season

While at Polokwane City, he struggled due to a lack of quality players around him to collaborate with or learn from. His goal-scoring potential raised concerns among fans, many of whom felt he wasn’t giving his all while playing for Rise and Shine.

With most teams focusing on shutting down the left flank where Appollis operated, he seemed somewhat one-dimensional. His transition to Pirates has showcased his versatility; he can play effectively on both flanks and even in the ‘number 10’ position.

Playing alongside quality teammates like Relebohile Mofokeng, Sipho Mbule, and Tshepang Moremi has allowed Appollis to play freely and provide exceptional assists.

At the national team level, the speedy winger has scored three times in his last three matches. Even when he isn’t scoring, he is making crucial assists that help his team find the back of the net.

Having secured his place in both the national team and at Pirates, Appollis is a sure starter for the upcoming AFCON, which kicks off in over a month.
