Zambia Coach Hails Broos Work With Bafana

Posted on November 15, 2025

Zambia head coach Moses Sichone says Bafana Bafana pose a great test for his side ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco and hailed the progress made under Hugo Broos.

South Africa will head to North Africa at the back of finishing third in the 2023 edition in Ivory Coast, and Broos stated, anything less than the semi-final would be considered a failure to the nation.

Having also secured their first FIFA World Cup qualification in Africa since 2002, Bafana Bafana are on a firm upward trajecory and a major test for Chipolopolo – who parted ways with Avran Grant last month and looking towards a new era.

“We have qualified for the AFCON and have a mix of experienced and young players, looking forward to the game, as preparation for AFCON, so we’re taking this game so serious and we’ll see the outcome,” he said.

“If a team has qualified for the World Cup – if you’re looking where is South Africa is coming from – I must commend the coach for what he’s done, what he’s assembled, we’ve watched his team, changing their football. We expect a tough game and we’re just looking forward to it.”

With the bulk of the squad based in the Zambia Super League, Sichone admits it’s an opportunity for many to raise their hand to stake a claim for future selections.

“It’s important to see our local players, to see who’s ready, if they can compete at this high level against South Africa, it’s an opportunity for them to see who is ready and who can show their talent.”
