Kaizer Chiefs FC have reportedly decided which stadium they’ll use when they face Egyptian giants Zamalek FC later this month.
The Glamour Boys qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup group stages where they’ll face Zamalek, Al Masry FC and Zambian giants ZESCO United.
The Amakhosi will play six group stage matches in total, three of which being at home. Now, their first home game’s venue has been revealed.
Kaizer Chiefs take Zamalek match to Polokwane
According to the latest reports, Kaizer Chiefs will host Zamalek at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on 29 November.
The Glamour Boys will travel to Egypt to face Al Masry FC a week before they host Zamalek.
“We can confirm that Kaizer Chiefs is going to be bringing in Zamalek all the way from Cairo or from Egypt,” Polokwane Municipality Sport and Recreation Mantlako Sebaka told Idiski Times.
“The game is scheduled to take place on 29 November at 15:00 and the tickets are going to be sold at Computicket for R80 only for such a big international match. Depending on the availability of the facility we have an extended relationship with Chiefs, the same way we have an extended relationship with Sekhukhune United.”
Amakhosi turn to home-ground advantage
Kaizer Chiefs were forced to take their CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round clash to the Dobsonville Stadium. It was a decision that proved to be a huge success, with a packed crowd spurring the Glamour Boys on.
Majority of the time, Amakhosi play at a rather empty FNB Stadium when at home. Given its 94 000 capacity, filling it up for games against teams other than Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates has also been a challenge.
Now, Kaizer Chiefs will be hoping to fill up the Peter Mokaba Stadium and make good use of their home-ground advantage. It’s a stadium they’re familiar with. Chiefs have taken a number of league games to Polokwane in recent years.
They’ll have two more home games in the Confederation Cup next year. Chiefs host ZESCO and also Al Masry at the beginning of February.
