The Orlando Pirates star you probably haven’t heard about

Posted on November 9, 2025

Orlando Pirates are unearthing some of the best football talent in the country at the moment.

While Relebohile Mofokeng, Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Thabiso Sesane and Cemran Dansin’s rise to stardom has been well documented, there’s another player that has somewhat slipped under the radar.

And his career path could be the reason why many fans either don’t know he’s an Orlando Pirates player or don’t know about him at all.

Another Orlando Pirates gem to keep tabs on

He may share the same surname as Relebohile Mofokeng however, Tefo Mofokeng is indeed a star of his own.

The Bucs wing-back has been loaned out to Botswana side Mochudi Centre Chiefs.

He played as a defender for Pirates FC, the Bucs’ feeder team, however he’s now shining as an attacker in Botswana.

The Orlando Pirates loanee already has six goals and four assists in his opening 10 matches of the season for Chiefs.

According to his current coach, Mofokeng is proving his class week-in and week-out.

“He’s an Orlando Pirates player, and they loaned him to us. When the season started, we asked for him again, and they were very kind to loan him back to us,” Pontsho Moloi told FARPost.

“He’s our top goal scorer, if not the top scorer in the league. He’s a very dynamic guy… He has never disappointed.”

Mofokeng to remain in Botswana

Mofokeng originally joined Mochudi Centre Chiefs on a six-month loan at the beginning of the year.

Orlando Pirates later agreed to extend his loan until the end of the 2025/26 season.

He’ll likely return to the Buccaneers at the end of the season and compete for a place at the club next season.

Mochudi currently sit in fifth position on the Botswana Premiership log standings.
