Pirates legend on why he likes Sundowns

Former Orlando Pirates superstar Steve Lekoelea has said his blood is black and white, but can’t help admiring the fabulous football played by Mamelodi Sundowns.

Lekoelea, who was the last player to wear the sacred Bucs jersey number 10 shirt before it was retired, believes the champions have raised the bar for everyone in South African football.

WHY STEVE LEKOELEA RATES MAMELODI SUNDOWNS ABOVE ORLANDO PIRATES

According to the Sebokeng-born legend, Sundowns’ calm, structured approach has set them apart from the rest, and watching the Tshwane giants reminds him how far local football has come.

“Only those with a football brain can see it, their style is not from here. It’s on another level,” he told KickOff.com. “I’m a Bhakaniya through and through, my blood is black and white,” Lekoelea added. “But I love Mamelodi Sundowns because of the way they play football. They are never in a hurry, they wait for the right moment.”

“Sundowns might not be like last season, but they are still strong. I’m happy to see Orlando Pirates competing with them, though, for the league title,” Lekoelea added.

The former attacking midfielder/winger concluded by giving credit to Abdeslam Ouaddou’s Buccaneers this season. “They’re still strong, but I’m proud to see Orlando Pirates competing,” he concluded.
