Orlando Pirates star Mbokazi punished severely by Fifa

Posted on November 8, 2025

Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates star Mbekezeli Mbokazi has been punished by football governing body FIFA.

This comes after the talented defender pushed his opponent during a World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe last month.

It was during the dying stages of a must-win match when the pressure got to the usually composed defender.

Now, the Orlando Pirates captain has learnt his fate after that irrational moment.

Orlando Pirates star slapped with R108 000 fine

Fifa have issued Mbokazi with a one-match suspension as well as a R108 000 fine.

The comes after the governing body found the Orlando Pirates defender guilty of ‘unsporting behaviour’.

The good news however is that Mbokazi has already served his suspension. He sat out Bafana Bafana’s final qualifier against Rwanda last month.

The talented defender will now be looking to put this incident behind him and focus on a huge year ahead.

Mbokazi will be a key figure for Bafana at both AFCON 2025 and next year’s Fifa World Cup. Below is a video of the incident which led to Fifa’s harsh decision.

Mbokazi’s rise to stardom

Mbekezeli Mbokazi’s rise to stardom has been nothing short of incredible.

The Orlando Pirates star has become a household name in South African football at the tender age of 21.

This season, he has already made 17 appearances for the Buccaneers across all competitions.
