Carnell Wins Major Award In The US

Posted on November 7, 2025

Philadelphia Union head coach and former Bafana Bafana defender Bradley Carnell has been named the SIGI SCHMID Major League Soccer Coach of the Year.

Carnell has proven once again that he’s one of the best coaches in the MLS after leading Philadelphia Union to their third MLS regular season champions. Zolos previously won the MLS in 2020 and 2022 before Carnell clinched it for the third time in 2025.

After 34 games, Zolos finished top of the league table with 20 wins, six draws and eight losses walking away with 66 points. They scored 57 goals and conceded 35 which is the lowest in the league.

It is a proud moment to be a South African as Carnell walked away with the coach of the season award.

The award was voted for by MLS technical staff, media and current MLS players. This is a great achievement for Carnell considering that it was his first season at The Union.
