Pirates coach Ouaddou makes surprise comment on his award

Posted on November 6, 2025

As reported here on The South African website, Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou was named the best coach in the Betway Premiership for September and October.

Under Ouaddou, Pirates played three league matches and won all three: 1-0 over Siwelele FC on 23 September at the Toyota Stadium, 2-0 over TS Galaxy on 30 September at Orlando Stadium, and 1-0 over Polokwane City on 22 October at the same venue.

ABDESLAM OUADDOU CREDITS ORLANDO PIRATES PLAYERS AND STAFF

Chatting to the media after his team’s thrilling 3-1 win over a superb Golden Arrows, Ouaddou, in his true element, refused to take the spotlight.

“I don’t like individual awards,” said Ouaddou, as quoted by Sportswire. “For me, being named Coach of the Month is thanks to the players, they deserve the credit.

“I must also thank my staff, the South African technical team working with me, and the management for their support. Instead of saying ‘Ouaddou is the Coach of the Month,’ I prefer to say Orlando Pirates are the Club of the Month. This award belongs to everyone involved,” the lanky French-Moroccan added.

Meanwhile, Ouaddou’s team are looking formidable despite the shock exit from the CAF Champions League. In addition to winning the MTN8 title in style against Stellenbosch FC (3-0 at Mbombela), Orlando Pirates are the second-highest scorers in the league with 14 goals in 10 games. While Sundowns lead with 19 goals and three points at the summit, the Buccaneers have played two matches less. Additionally, the Soweto giants have the best defensive record in Mzansi, having conceded only five goals in 10 games.

Coming up next is a Carling Knockout semifinal battle against Richards Bay FC on Saturday. Kick off is set for 15:00 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium. The other semifinal tie will see Golden Arrows host Marumo Gallants at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Sunday at 15:00.
