Former Chelsea star impressed by Chiefs facilities

Posted on November 6, 2025

A truly distinguished visitor checked in at the Kaizer Chiefs Naturena Village on Wednesday.

The name on his passport is Salomon Armand Magloire Kalou, with the following details: country of birth, Côte d’Ivoire, and date of birth, August 5, 1985.

FORMER CHELSEA FC FORWARD SALOMON KALOU AT KAIZER CHIEFS

What makes Kalou’s name respectable in football worldwide? The former Chelsea star has won trophies that many highly talented and famous footballers only dreamt of but never achieved:

  • English Premier League 2009/10
  • UEFA Champions League 2011/12
  • Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) 2015.

Speaking from the Kaizer Chiefs village, Kalou told Amakhosi media: “I am truly impressed by the facilities here and the welcome I have received,” he said. “I have always admired Kaizer Chiefs because they wear the same colours as my former club, ASEC Mimosas,” he added.

The Ivorian forward also revealed that, growing up, both he and his brother admired the Amakhosi icon, Doctor Khumalo.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR AMAKHOSI?

In the meantime, Kaizer Chiefs face a two-week break. Having gone out of the Carling Knockout (CKO) first round at the hands of Stellenbosch FC, the Phefeni Glamour Boys will be out of action this weekend as the semifinals take centre stage in KwaZulu-Natal.

The CKO weekend will be followed by the FIFA break as Bafana Bafana take on Zambia in an international break to prepare for Afcon 2025 in Morocco in December.

Kaizer Chiefs’ next football game will thus be on Saturday, 22 November in Polokwane against Magesi FC. Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef’s men are sitting well in third place, just three points behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, and vitally, have a game in hand.
