Chiefs grab late win to go third above Pirates

Posted on October 31, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs picked up their first Betway Premiership win in five games, thanks to a 1-0 win over Durban City at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Substitute Guinea-Bissau striker Flavio Silva scored with a top-class header in the 88th minute after a fine cross from Gaston Sirino.

The finish was the towering striker’s third goal of the season in five games.

KAIZER CHIEFS CLIMB UP THE BETWAY PREMIERSHIP AFTER NARROW WIN OVER DURBAN CITY

With the three points, Amakhosi have moved up from fourth to third place, while Orlando Pirates dropped to fourth position.

Silva’s winner came just a minute after Durban City thought they had found the winner, but substitute Saziso Magawana’s tap-in was correctly ruled offside.

To the relief of the Kaizer Chiefs technical team, the result put an end to a four-match winless run in the Betway Premiership. In the previous four league games, Amakhosi had lost 3-1 to Sekhukhune and drawn three games against AmaZulu, Marumo Gallants and Siwelele FC.

Coming up next is the visit of Orbit College to the FNB Stadium on Tuesday at 19:30.

How Kaizer Chiefs lined-up: Brandon Petersen, Dillan Solomons, Bradley Cross, Aden McCarthy, Zitha Kwinika, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Mduduzi Shabalala, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, Etiosa Ighodaro, Mfundo Vilakazi, Glody Lilepo.

Substitutes: Bruce Bvuma, Zitha Kwinika, Thabiso Monyane, Thabo Cele, Lebohang Maboe, Pule Mmodi, Gaston Sirino, Asanele Velebayi, Flavio da Silva.
