Lafitte – How I Reach Players Older Than Me

Posted on October 29, 2025

Marumo Gallants head coach Alexandre Lafitte has revealed how he reaches older players saying generally players are trusting when they feel a coach can help them.

At 28, the Frenchman is the youngest coach in the Betway Premiership, and he has enjoyed an impressive start to the season where Gallants have registered three wins and four draws in 10 matches to sit in 10th place with 13 points. Bahlabane Ba Ntwa also reached the quarterfinals of the Carling Knockout Cup having beaten Mamelodi Sundowns in the first round of the competition.

Speaking to iDiski Times journalist Lethabo Kganyago in edition 227 of the newspaper, Lafitte said his age has never been a challenge even with older players because what’s important for them is knowing a coach can elevate their game.

“Well, for me it’s not a problem,” Lafitte told iDiski Times.

“You know, when you are a head coach notably the players respect you because you decide. But the most important thing is that the players feel you can help them, you can help the team to improve, and after communication, it’s important to understand what their personality is, who they are and how you can adapt.

“And for me, players don’t remember the age, they just work and follow the coach because they think it’s possible to win with you.”
