Makgopa Reacts After Netting Match-Winning Goal

Posted on October 29, 2025

Orlando Pirates striker Evidence Makgopa has emphasized the importance of winning cup games after their CAF Champions League disappointment.

The Buccaneers were dumped out of Africa’s elite club competition at the hands of DRC outfit Saint Eloi Lupopo this past weekend going down 5-4 on penalties despite winning the second leg 3-0.

On Tuesday evening, Pirates got one over Carling Knockout Cup defending champions Magesi FC with a narrow 2-1 win eSgodini as the towering Bafana Bafana striker came on in the 68th minute to net the winner after Tshepang Moremi had given the hosts the lead with a belter in the 51st minute.

“First of all, I’d like to thank the Buccaneers who came to support us despite the wet weather,” Makgopa told OP TV.

“I think every minute counts and when you get a chance you have to utilise it so that when they [technical team] select the team next time, they think about you.

“I think today’s game was important if you can check what happened in CAF, we won but we didn’t manage to win on penalties, but you know at Pirates we play to win every cup.

“We have to win every game so that we can progress to the next round.”
