Road closures alert ahead of Kaizer Chiefs’ CAF clash

Posted on October 26, 2025

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has announced multiple road closures and strict traffic controls in Dobsonville, Soweto, ahead of the CAF Confederation Cup match between Kaizer Chiefs FC and AS Simba FC at Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday, 26 October.

Additionally, the match kicks off at 15:00, with gates opening at 12:00. JMPD officers will be deployed from 11:00 to manage traffic flow and ensure public safety.

“We urge all attendees and the surrounding community to take note of the planned traffic management operations, road closures, and parking arrangements,” the department said.

Furthermore, officials anticipate heavy congestion near the stadium as supporters flock to the venue. The public is encouraged to travel early and use designated parking areas.

Road closures and controlled intersections for the Kaizer Chiefs clash

From 11:00, road closures will take effect at Marambu Street intersections with Mondi Street, Mngadi/Tati Street, and Sifuba Street. JMPD will also actively control traffic along Main Street, Luthuli Street, and Ellias Motsoaledi Street, including several adjoining junctions.

“We appeal to all motorists to exercise patience and follow the instructions of deployed law enforcement officers,” JMPD stated.

Spectators are warned against parking on pavements or street shoulders, as any vehicles violating the Road Traffic Management Act will be impounded.

Designated spectator parking areas include Dobsonville Rugby Field, Dobsonville Swimming Pool, and Kopanong Community Hall, which will also serve as a ticket sales point, if tickets are not yet sold out.

Safety and Access Guidelines for Match Day

Furthermore, access routes have been clearly defined to ensure smooth entry for all people. Emergency vehicles, team buses, and staff will use Marambu/Mondi Street, while VIPs, media personnel, and Venue Operations Centre members will enter through the main gate.

Residents living opposite the stadium must display valid access cards with their house numbers and names visible for security clearance. JMPD, supported by SAPS and event stakeholders, will maintain a strong presence to ensure order and maintain law and order.
