New era dawns at Kaizer Chiefs as new captain appointed

Posted on October 24, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs have officially appointed a new captain for the remainder of the 2025/26 season.

Inacio Miguel has had to remove the captaincy armband to hand it to Amakhosi’s new skipper.

Former coach Nasreddine Nabi had appointed Inacio Miguel as the Glamour Boys’ captain, but following the promotion of Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef to the positions of co-coaches, things have changed at Naturena.

Take charge

Kaizer Chiefs’ new captain is goalkeeper Brandon Peterson.

“We decided as the technical staff to appoint Peterson as the club captain going forward,” Kaze told journalists.

The veteran shot-stopper will take charge of the Soweto giants for the remainder of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season.

Starting regularly as captain will give Peterson the best chance of fighting for a spot among these Kaizer Chiefs players who may play for Bafana Bafana in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Kaizer Chiefs now have a new captain and new co-coaches set to take charge of the side this season.

Change needed

The question is whether or not the new co-coaches and captain can bring about the change needed at the club.

Kaizer Chiefs have had three captains in their last three PSL encounters.

Miguel, Zitha Kwinika and Peterson have all worn the captaincy armband.

Amakhosi have changed their coaches and captains frequently over the past few seasons.

Recently, they have had Yusuf Maart, Itumeleng Khune and the aforementioned stars (Miguel, Kwinika and Peterson) have all worn the captains’ armband.

In terms of coaches, Nabi, Cavin Johnson, Molefi Ntseki, Stuart Baxter and Gavin Hunt all had relatively short tenures spanning a season or two with the club.

Nothing appears to last forever at Naturena.
