Kaizer Chiefs’ outcast ready to shine after starring overseas

Posted on October 20, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs star Mfundo Vilakazi has had a disappointing start to the campaign, but something might have just clicked.

Vilakazi was a key figure for Amajita as they reached the Round of 16 in the FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile.

Can the 19-year-old finish 2025 strongly?

Vilakazi ready to return to Kaizer Chiefs

19-year-old Mfundo Vilakazi believes his experience with the U20 side in South America stands him in good stead for the remainder of the league season.

“Chile was great, even though we were knocked out in the last 16 [by Colombia]. We gained invaluable experience, and I plan to use it here at the team,” Vilakazi told the Kaizer Chiefs website.

Vilakazi is playing a fringe role for Chiefs this season

Mfundo ‘Obrigado’ Vilakazi claimed two assists in a 5-0 win over New Caledonia in the group stages. He also slotted a penalty in the Round of 16 defeat to Colombia. However, for Chiefs, he’s hardly had a look-in this term. The teenager has only played 73 minutes across all competitions this season, all as a substitute.

When is Kaizer Chiefs vs Siwelele?

Meanwhile, the Glamour Boys have endured a rocky patch of late, losing in the first round of the Telkom Knockout to Stellenbosch on penalties. That followed a sequence of three winless league matches; a 1-3 defeat to Sekhukhune and 1-1 draws against Marumo Gallants and AmaZulu. Next up is a battle with Siwelele.

Chiefs vs Siwelele kicks off on Wednesday, 22 October at 19:30. It will be aired on SS PSL (DSTv channel 202, available to Compact subscribers.
