Pitso Points Out Crucial Factor For Bafana WC Qualification

Posted on October 16, 2025

Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane has congratulated Bafana Bafana for making the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and pointed out that our club’s performances in the CAF Champions League have helped.

Bafana booked their ticket for the tournament in the USA, Canada and Mexico next year after beating Rwanda 3-0 at Mbombela Stadium on Tuesday, while Nigeria thumped Benin 4-0.

The Cheetahs dropped from first into third place, with Nigeria booking a ticket for the four best runners-up.

With Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and Stellenbosch FC all reaching the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup, respectively last season, Mosimane hailed the impact of those clubs, while also crediting Hugo Broos and his technical team.

“Thank you Coach Hugo, Helman, Technical Team and our players who really gave a gallant fight throughout the qualifiers,” he stated via social media.

“Participation of our local teams in the semi-finals of CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup has added value to our National Teams.”

Bafana will now shift their focus on preparing for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, with the upcoming November break giving Broos and the team a chance to get ready for the tournament in Morocco.
