Broos Reacts To Historic World Cup Qualification

Posted on October 15, 2025

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has reacted to guiding South Africa to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification.

South Africa beat Rwanda 3-0 in the last qualifying match at the Mbombela Stadium on Tuesday evening, finishing on top of Group C with 18 points.

This is their first qualification since 2002 while their last participation in the tournament was in 2010 as hosts.

Broos has stressed that the stage Bafana will be competing on is truly unique and unlike any other.

He believes Bafana’s appearance at the World Cup will elevate the perceived value of South African football overall, drawing more attention to its players from clubs abroad.

“World Cup is a highest level, you can’t compare it with anything,” said Broos on SuperSport TV after the match.

“And those who have been there, they will tell you. Every football player or coach wants to be there.

“When you have an opportunity to be there, you have to do everything to achieve it and it’s very important also for the players to be on the highest level of football.

“This is good for South African football, in 2010 you were hosts but now after our bronze medal at AFCON, we’re going to America, you will see the value of South African football will be higher.

“And I know for the players, the interest to players will be high. It’s good for everybody.”
