Khune On Bafana WC Qualification

Posted on October 14, 2025

Former Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper has hailed the current generation of South African men’s football, as well as head coach Hugo Broos after their historic qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Bafana beat Rwanda 3-0 to top Group C after Nigeria hammered Benin 4-0 in the other fixture. The result secured South Africa the top spot in the group and their first qualification for a World Cup since 2002.

Khune, who featured in the 2010 World Cup on home soil, was full of praise how the current generation defeated all odds to book their ticket for the international showpiece.

“What a great time to be alive,” he stated on SABC3.

“What great time to witness such greatness of the current generation of Bafana Bafana players.

“They’ve made the country proud, and obviously the table, Bafana Bafana did themselves a favour, making sure they go all out, they focus on the results, they win all their matches.

“Yes, we almost had a setback by being deducted three points and three goals, but the boys kept on believing.

“And even the coach kept on telling us as a nation, don’t worry, we are booking our ticket and we’re going to the US.”
