Golden Arrows head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has made a bold statement about South African football clubs.
Mngqithi was speaking last week after defeating Sekhukhune United in Carling Knockout Cup, eliminating them in the Round of 16.

Arrows’ recent run of attractive football, he noted that the team has been growing in their ability to play constructive football, even though they still make occasional mistakes.
Mngqithi says many South African teams avoid ball possession-based football, opting instead to kick the ball forward and capitalise on second balls.
“Most teams in South Africa don’t play possession-based football,” said Mngqithi.
“Most teams kick it forward, if it’s windy, it goes out. If it’s headed, you have a second ball and then from there, it’s a short at goal.
“That makes team to not have condition to sustain good football actions for longer periods if the ball is kept in the pitch for long.
“We try the best we can to do what we think is constructive football but that doesn’t mean we are the best. We still make silly mistakes here and there.
“We lose the ball cheaply, give the ball to the opponents but we have a good counter-pressure because the team is quick and fit even when lose it, we lose it from a vertical pass, we already know we have a chance of regaining it back because we have bodies behind the ball to take care of that.”
