Barker On Stellies Readiness For Crunch Chiefs Clash

Posted on October 4, 2025

Stellenbosch FC head coach Steve Barker has declared that his troops have prepared well for their Carling Knockout last 16 tie against Kaizer Chiefs and will use their past cup experience to seal passage.

Stellies haven’t beaten Chiefs in their last four encounters in all competitions and the latest clash this campaign beating the Cape Winelands side 2-0 in the Betway Premiership.

In the last two encounters, Stellies received red cards and finished the game with 10 men.

Barker hope they can avoid that this coming Sunday and turn things around after going six games without win.

“Look, obviously the first encounter when we got the red card early in the game, it obviously, changed sort of the complexion and the game plan of the of the whole match. So, goes without saying. Obviously, we’ve got to, you know, keep all our players on the on the pitch,” Barker explained ahead of the CKC clash.

“But Chiefs have shown this season that they have improved. They are very competitive. They’ve got some really good individuals. They’ve got a certain way they’re looking to play. So yeah, we don’t expect anything, but been a tough game, but it’s about us concentrating on we can do and where we good at. And, we have to be improving in certain areas, which we’ve been really working hard at training.

“Hopefully the Cup game gives us just a little bit of relief from the league campaign. It’s a once off opportunity to get into a quarter final, so we’re ready for it.”
