Former Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Farouk Khan has discussed why it is unlikely that Nasreddine Nabi will coach the club again.
The 60-year-old Tunisian tactician was suspended by Chiefs following the team’s 3-1 defeat to Sekhukhune United earlier this month.
The Soweto giants released a statement indicating that an internal investigation was underway, but they did not provide any information regarding Nabi’s future. Khan, who was an assistant coach for Chiefs in the early to mid-2000s, suggested that Nabi may be negotiating his exit to secure a favourable payout.
“There is no way Nabi is coming back. Chiefs don’t want Nabi,” Khan told Soccer Beat.
“I think Nabi wanted to leave without being suspended and now his agent has spoken to him and said, ‘listen, you’re going to lose out financially.’
“This is what happens in football: you have a contract and your agent will advise you to milk that contract. People out there need to understand that Nabi will not be a Kaizer Chiefs coach again; that decision was made on the day that he was suspended,” he added.

Former Amakhosi left-back Tsepo Masilela also shared Khan’s sentiments.
“My feeling is that there is still a lot that needs to be discussed or agreed upon in the background. I just have a feeling that they can’t reach a common ground. Sometimes, when a coach leaves, you have to settle and it also depends on whether the coach wants out or the team wants to get rid of the coach.”
In Nabi’s absence, Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze have taken charge. The two coaches have guided the Chiefs to the next round of the CAF Confederation Cup this past weekend, following a penalty shootout win over the Angolan outfit Kabuscorp.
