Ouaddou – I’m Not 100% Convinced

Posted on September 27, 2025

Orlando Pirates head coach Abseslam Ouaddou says he’s happy with the progress his squad has made this season but admits there’s still plenty to improve.

After an indifferent start to life at the club with back to back league defeats against Sekhukhune United and Marumo Gallants – Pirates have won seven consecutive games which includes the penalty shootout out win over Mamelodi Sundowns en route to the MTN8 title.

With six clean sheets in the process, there’s been suggestions that momentum is now in full swing but Ouaddou feels there’s a lot more to do before they reach that stage.

“One thing that’s sure, we have started to be more consistent in some areas, you can see a stronger Orlando Pirtates, when we defend, more connection with the players, more strength, they try to recognise the triggers, how and where, when in recovering the ball,” Ouaddou said.

“It’s very important but the things are getting better with the attacking animation I told you that sometimes, a coach needs a little bit of time for the players to understand what he’s expecting from them and I’m happy about that.

“But it’s not finished, I cannot say everything is perfect, we still have a lot of work. We are doing well, I am happy about what we’re doing, but I’m still not convinced 100% because we still have a lot of things to work.”

Pirates take on Lioli FC tomorrow in their second leg 1st round CAF Champions League preliminary qualifier at Orlando Stadium at 15h00.
