Raja Mulling Over Two Former Pirates Coaches

Posted on September 18, 2025

Raja Club Athletic are said to be considering the appointment of a new head coach with Jose Riveiro and Fadlu Davids amongst a host of names on their shortlist.

Lassaad Chabbi is currently in charge of the Green Eagles but has come under increasing pressure after their display in the goalless draw against ASFAR, with calls from supporters for a new direction.

The 64-year-old is in his second stint at the club, with 11 wins, six draws and one defeat but there’s been question marks over his long-term future.

Sources within the club have confirmed Davids, who was part of the domestic double unbeaten success as assistant coach Josef Zinnbauer, is among the list of candidates being discussed, while Riveiro, who had a brief stint with Al Ahly has also been name-dropped by the board.

Davids is currently at Tanzanian giants Simba SC, who started the season with a 1-0 defeat in the Community Shield against fierce rivals Young Africans this week.

However, it remains to be seen what transpires in the coming weeks with only two games played in the 2025/26 Botola Pro season thus far, which was delayed due to the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in East Africa.
