Kaizer Chiefs’ unbeaten run ended by Sekhukhune

Posted on September 16, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs arrived at FNB Stadium with a golden chance to leapfrog Mamelodi Sundowns and claim top spot in the Betway Premiership, but Sekhukhune United’s Bradley Grobler stole the show with a brace and an assist.

Babina Noko wasted no time taking the lead, with Grobler firing ahead in the fifth minute.

Kaizer Chiefs responded with Flavio da Silva equalising in the 13th minute for his second goal in two league games after opening his account against Golden Arrows.

SEKHUKHUNE UNITED DELIVER KAIZER CHIEFS’ FIRST LOSS

The second half saw Sekhukhune steam away from Amakhosi. Grobler struck again in the 50th minute to reclaim the lead, before Thabang Monare added a third goal to seal a statement win for the visitors.

Kaizer Chiefs pressed late, but Sekhukhune’s defence stood firm, leaving The Glamour Boys frustrated.

The defeat ends Kaizer Chiefs’ unbeaten streak. Despite flashes of attacking promise, tonight’s result highlights the high level of competition in the Betway Premiership.

Sekhukhune, now at the top of the league with two points ahead of the champions Sundowns, are the team to watch.

CAF CONFEDERATION CUP

Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs are switching focus to Africa. The campaign begins with a tricky test in the preliminary round against Angolan Cup champions Kabuscorp S.C.P.

Amakhosi will travel to Luanda’s 11 de Novembro Stadium on Saturday at 17:00 before bringing the tie home to FNB Stadium on 27 September.
