Nigerian newcomer leaves Orlando Pirates

Posted on September 16, 2025

Orlando Pirates were this close to landing the towering Nigerian defender Chimzulam Collins Nwoburuoke, but fate had other plans.

The 22-year-old center back, who had been impressing on trial with the Soweto giants, is now gearing up to put pen to paper on a Durban City FC contract.

Nwoburuoke’s journey has a twist. In August, he first had a trial at Durban City, only to make a trip to Soweto to try his luck with the Buccaneers.

“Chimzulam Collins Nwoburuoke has stopped training with Orlando Pirates,” FARPost’s Tshepo Rabothe reported. “He is on his way to join Durban City.

“At the moment, it’s just small details that need ironing, and the deal with be go over the line. He’s a good player who is definitely going to add value to Durban City,” the report added.

At City, Nwoburuoke will cover for the club’s starting central defenders, Siphamandla Ncanana and Liam de Kock.

Meanwhile, the Buccaneers remain secure with six quality central defenders:

  • Nkosinathi Sibisi
  • Mbekezeli Mbokazi
  • Lebone Seema
  • Tapelo Xoki
  • Olisa Ndah
  • Thabiso Sesane.

Meanwhile, the Sea Robbers are already gearing up for action on the continental stage.

Lesotho’s Lilio will welcome Orlando Pirates in the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League on Saturday, 20 September, at 15:00, but with no CAF-approved stadium in Lesotho, the clash will take place at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein.
