Zwane – Why We Chose Kutumela

Posted on September 15, 2025

AmaZulu head coach Arthur Zwane has explained why they chose to bring on board Thabiso Kutumela among other players they profiled.

The 32-year-old forward joined Usuthu on a free transfer after departing Richards Bay at the end of the previous campaign.

He was part of the Bafana Bafana squad at the CHAN tournament in August, where he scored three goals in four matches for Molefi Ntseki’s side.

Zwane says they went for Kutumela because of his goal-scoring prowess and experience, knowing he would hit the ground running.

“He’s experienced and you must have seen his performances in most of the games he played [at CHAN],” said Zwane during the club’s media open day on Monday.

“His performances were encouraging and convincing. He scored goals and he’s a good finisher. We needed someone who can guide the likes of Ndlovu upfront.

“He can also take pressure and can hit the ground running. Hence, we went for him. It could have any other player available right now but when you profile them, we couldn’t just bring anyone who’d still be in the process of returning to play.

“We needed someone who could hit the ground running. We’re happy to have him on board and we think he’s gonna add so much value that is needed.”
