Mayo gets Kaizer Chiefs’ legendary jersey number

Posted on September 14, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs star Khanyisa Mayo has finally touched down at Naturena. The 27-year-old striker sealed a one-year loan move from Algerian giants CR Belouizdad on Friday.

Instead of just being another signing, Kaizer Chiefs made it clear that Mayo will carry a powerful piece of the club’s identity, a jersey number with history attached.

Over the years, some of Kaizer Chiefs’ most beloved, trusted, and celebrated names in black and gold have worn it with honour.

KHANYISA MAYO’S KAIZER CHIEFS JERSEY NUMBER

In a series of social media posts, the club confirmed that Mayo will don the number 3 shirt.

Kaizer Chiefs’ jersey number 3 lineage…

  • Onismor Bhasera
  • Thomas Sweswe
  • Eric Mathoho
  • Mduduzi Mdantsane
  • NEW: Khanyisa Mayo.

Bhasera gave it energy down the left. Sweswe added defensive steel. Mathoho became a household name in it. Mdantsane carried it most recently with flair. And now, that same famous shirt has been passed to Khanyisa Mayo.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF MAYO TAKING THE NUMBER 3?
