Orlando Pirates coach on ‘plumber’ and ‘carpenter’ title

Posted on September 14, 2025

Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has opened up on the lack of support he has received in South Africa.

Ouaddou was named as Jose Riveiro’s successor at the Buccaneers at the beginning of the season.

After a slow start to life at the club, many fans were quick to question his credentials and capabilities.

With some going as far as labelling him as a ‘plumber’ and a ‘carpenter’. What they meant was simple, Abdeslam Ouaddou is not a football coach. Now, the Moroccan coach has responded to his critics.

Orlando Pirates coach breaks silence after MTN8 triumph

After guiding his side to the 2025 MTN8 title, Abdeslam Ouaddou answered his critics in style!

“It doesn’t mean that I am a better coach than two months ago. Maybe I am still a plumber or a carpenter for many people,” the Orlando Pirates coach said as quoted by FARPost.

“I was not worried. Maybe people were worrying and had a lot of doubts about the coach. But like I said, in football, sometimes you need patience. When you come to a club that has 10 new players and you need to implement a philosophy and give a model.

“I am not saying philosophy because Jose Riveiro did a very good job before. So it was important to keep the legacy and also to be something new for the club to be more than before.”

Can Pirates win the league title?

After bagging his first trophy at the club, do you think there’s more to come? Can Abdeslam Ouaddou dethrone Mamelodi Sundowns and make Orlando Pirates league champions?
