Orlando Pirates appear to have gotten their mojo back after a run of good results lately.

Having won three league matches in a row, the Buccaneers have also reached the MTN8 final for the fourth consecutive time. Their Betway Premiership campaign saw them suffer back-to-back defeats under new coach Abdeslam Ouaddou.

The Moroccan coach replaced Jose Riveiro as Orlando Pirates coach in June. Under Riveiro, the Sea Robbers won five of their six finals and reached the CAF Champions League semi-finals last season.

The Spaniard left the Buccaneers to join Egyptian giants Al Ahly but only lasted just seven matches before he was given the boot. He was linked with a move back to the PSL; however, it remains to be seen if he would join any team besides Pirates.

“Once (a Pirate), Always (a Pirate). I will never coach any other team in South Africa. I am a Buccaneer. Orlando Pirates are the only club where I could have the motivation, the courage, the energy, and the heart to coach in the country,” Riveiro said earlier this year.

Orlando Pirates chairman Dr Irvin Khoza has had success with the club over the past few years. Speaking to Robert Marawa, the man known as ‘Iron Duke’, named his best players to ever represent the club.

“Up to today, you can talk about so many stars. There is no team that has produced King Kaizer Matatazela, Scara Son, Kaizer Motaung, Chipa Chipa Moloi, Jomo Sono. Make sure you make your mark to be in that stable,” the Orlando Pirates boss said as per Afrika Foot.

With 12 new signings, the Iron Duke will look to bring the Betway Premiership or CAF CL at the end of the season. The Buccanners are in action this weekend against Stellenbosch in the MTN8 where R10 million is up for grabs.
