Durban City FC have decided against signing attacker Phakamani Mahlambi, the club’s chairman Farouk Kadodia confirmed to iDiski Times.
After a prolonged period without a club, the former Bidvest Wits and Mamelodi Sundowns attacker had been given a lifeline, training for several weeks with the KwaZulu-Natal-based club.
Mahlambi last played professional football in September 2021 during his time with Chippa United, who were, at the time, led by the current Durban City coach Gavin Hunt.
He was given the opportunity to train with City by Hunt, who had also offered him his professional debut at Bidvest Wits in the 2015/16 season.
Kadodia has revealed that the player has stopped training with the team, stating that he didn’t “fit the plans” for the Durban outfit.
“No, basically we sent him away because he was not fitting our plans,” Kadodia told iDiski Times.
Mahlambi, who’s 27 years old, rose to prominence at Wits and was among those who helped the team win the 2016/17 ABSA Premiership under the tutelage of Hunt.
In 2017, his career took him to Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly but after one season abroad, he came back to South Africa to sign with Sundowns.
During his time with Masandawana, he had two loan spells – at AmaZulu and Chippa United before departing the Tshwane giants permanently.
